Baseball For Lunch

Slept in a little today probably because of the game last night. The Phillies were shutout once again in an 8-0 loss to the Mets. Now the Mets are only three games back with the Braves catching up at 2.5. There seems to be no effort out of the Phils. Not many of the guys showed patience at the plate. Who else but Rod Barajas killed the Phillies again, driving in three with a double. Jose Reyes picked up two RBIs, one off a solo home run in the 3rd. Phillies batters continued to lower the ERA of opposing teams by not scoring. Mets starter Hisanori Takahashi (4-1) pitched six scoreless allowing only five hits while dropping his ERA from 2.53 to 2.13. Joe Blanton (1-3) struggled for the Phils, giving up five runs in 5.1 innings.

Perfect Night in the Minors
While the big Phillies struggle, the minor league teams continue to post wins. Lehigh Valley had off last night but Reading, Clearwater, and Lakewood all won. In Reading, Matt Rizzotti hit a 3-run walk off HR after a great start from Vance Worley (7 IP, 2 ER, 6 H). John Singleton drove in another run at Lakewood and got two hits. In just 14 games for the BlueClaws, Singleton is batting .429 with 4 HR and 15 RBI.

-Speaking of Singleton, he and teammate pitcher Brody Colvin were named the Phillies Minor League Players of the Week.

-Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez got his 9th win last night after pitching eight scoreless. He's 9-1 on the season with a 0.88 ERA.

-Brett Myers starts today for the Astros in their 1:05 game vs. the Brewers.

-Stephen Strausburg could make his MLB debut during the Nats' June 8-10 series with the Pirates according to this article.
